Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Metals, Capital Goods and Healthcare sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 fell 0.05%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index fell 0.07%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were GAIL Ltd (NS:GAIL), which rose 5.15% or 20.60 points to trade at 420.85 at the close. Tata Motors Ltd (NS:TAMO) added 4.62% or 18.70 points to end at 423.65 and Tata Motors DV Ltd (NS:TAMdv) was up 3.38% or 7.90 points to 241.40 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Coal India Ltd (NS:COAL), which lost 2.27% or 6.00 points to trade at 258.55 in late trade. Aurobindo Pharma Ltd. (NS:ARBN) declined 1.74% or 13.30 points to end at 748.95 and Hindalco Industries Ltd. (NS:HALC) shed 1.20% or 3.00 points to 246.50.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Gail (India) Ltd. (BO:GAIL) which rose 4.87% to 420.15, Tata Motors Ltd (BO:TAMO) which was up 4.58% to settle at 423.90 and Cipla Ltd. (BO:CIPL) which gained 0.61% to close at 573.50.
The worst performers were Coal India Ltd (BO:COAL) which was down 2.49% to 258.20 in late trade, Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd (BO:HDFC) which lost 1.02% to settle at 1752.85 and Larsen & Toubro Ltd (BO:LART) which was down 0.92% to 1226.40 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 796 to 755 and 19 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1270 fell and 1257 advanced, while 142 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 0.20% to 11.4650.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.05% or 0.64 to $1311.44 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in November rose 0.83% or 0.42 to hit $50.77 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract rose 0.63% or 0.35 to trade at $55.83 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.15% to 64.320, while EUR/INR rose 0.52% to 77.0971.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.15% at 91.67.
