Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Metals, Power and Oil & Gas sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 declined 0.51% to hit a new 1-month low, while the BSE Sensex 30 index declined 0.61%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd. (NS:ZEE), which rose 8.40% or 27.85 points to trade at 357.90 at the close. Yes Bank Ltd (NS:YESB) added 6.47% or 10.40 points to end at 170.30 and Bajaj Finance Ltd (NS:BJFN) was up 1.63% or 47.70 points to 2971.35 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Reliance Industries Ltd (NS:RELI), which lost 3.56% or 46.30 points to trade at 1256.45 in late trade. Bharat Petroleum Corp. Ltd. (NS:BPCL) declined 3.19% or 12.10 points to end at 368.05 and Bharti Airtel Ltd. (NS:BRTI) shed 1.85% or 6.00 points to 315.45.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Yes Bank Ltd (BO:YESB) which rose 5.94% to 170.30, Bajaj Finance Ltd (BO:BJFN) which was up 1.65% to settle at 2970.00 and Hero MotoCorp Ltd (BO:HROM) which gained 1.17% to close at 2530.00.
The worst performers were Reliance Industries Ltd (BO:RELI) which was down 3.41% to 1255.15 in late trade, Coal India Ltd (BO:COAL) which lost 2.53% to settle at 242.60 and NTPC Ltd (BO:NTPC) which was down 2.33% to 127.95 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 918 to 661 and 62 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1341 fell and 1040 advanced, while 140 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 3.34% to 25.4850.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.22% or 2.85 to $1284.25 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June fell 0.10% or 0.06 to hit $62.06 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract rose 0.10% or 0.07 to trade at $70.44 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.22% to 69.891, while EUR/INR rose 0.23% to 78.1930.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.03% at 97.422.
