Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Oil & Gas, Capital Goods and Public Sector Undertakings sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 fell 1.48%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index declined 1.38%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Coal India Ltd (NS:COAL), which rose 2.96% or 7.80 points to trade at 269.15 at the close. Titan Company Ltd (NS:TITN) added 1.76% or 22.00 points to end at 1269.45 and Hero MotoCorp Ltd (NS:HROM) was up 1.50% or 41.20 points to 2788.75 in late trade.
Biggest losers included GAIL Ltd (NS:GAIL), which lost 11.49% or 41.15 points to trade at 316.30 in late trade. Indiabulls Housing Finance Ltd (NS:INBF) declined 7.73% or 61.55 points to end at 735.80 and IndusInd Bank Ltd. (NS:INBK) shed 6.84% or 112.00 points to 1522.65.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Coal India Ltd (BO:COAL) which rose 1.92% to 268.30, Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (BO:PGRD) which was up 1.27% to settle at 195.55 and Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (BO:HLL) which gained 1.13% to close at 1836.55.
The worst performers were IndusInd Bank Ltd. (BO:INBK) which was down 6.97% to 1522.05 in late trade, Yes Bank Ltd (BO:YESB) which lost 6.15% to settle at 143.35 and State Bank Of India (BO:SBI) which was down 4.34% to 337.05 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1219 to 374 and 63 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1776 fell and 725 advanced, while 129 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 0.66% to 15.5250 a new 1-month low.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.56% or 7.45 to $1341.05 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July rose 0.45% or 0.23 to hit $51.91 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract rose 1.01% or 0.61 to trade at $61.24 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.20% to 69.249, while EUR/INR fell 0.01% to 77.8160.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.06% at 97.192.
