Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Oil & Gas, IT and Healthcare sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 lost 2.39% to hit a new 3-month low, while the BSE Sensex 30 index declined 2.24%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were ICICI Bank Ltd (NS:ICBK), which rose 4.05% or 12.30 points to trade at 316.50 at the close. AXIS Bank Ltd (NS:AXBK) added 2.03% or 11.60 points to end at 586.25 and UltraTech Cement Ltd (NS:ULTC) was up 2.06% or 79.70 points to 3943.65 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd (NS:HPCL), which lost 22.44% or 56.35 points to trade at 217.15 in late trade. Bharat Petroleum Corp. Ltd. (NS:BPCL) declined 18.88% or 71.35 points to end at 331.15 and Indian Oil Corporation Ltd (NS:IOC) shed 18.24% or 28.90 points to 140.30.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were ICICI Bank Ltd (BO:ICBK) which rose 4.07% to 315.95, AXIS Bank Ltd. (BO:AXBK) which was up 2.70% to settle at 586.10 and Larsen & Toubro Ltd (BO:LART) which gained 1.18% to close at 1259.15.
The worst performers were Reliance Industries Ltd (BO:RELI) which was down 7.03% to 1120.55 in late trade, Hero MotoCorp Ltd (BO:HROM) which lost 5.45% to settle at 2757.00 and Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (BO:TCS) which was down 4.54% to 2064.25 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1225 to 393 and 47 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1828 fell and 744 advanced, while 129 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 4.40% to 18.9150 a new 6-month high.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.04% or 0.50 to $1202.40 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in November fell 0.21% or 0.16 to hit $76.25 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract fell 0.28% or 0.24 to trade at $86.05 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.16% to 73.735, while EUR/INR rose 0.66% to 84.7405.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.13% at 95.55.
