Investing.com - Canadian equities started with gains on Tuesday, with rises in majority of sectors, the most notable ones being the Information Technology, Consumer Discretionary Index, Industrials, Communication Services and falls in Energy.
At the market open in Toronto, the TSX Composite Index rose 0.56%. The TSX Venture and the TSX Smallcap also increased. The TSX Venture climbed 0.31%, while the Smallcap increased by 0.39%.

- Shopify (TSX:SHOP) Inc: Increased 5.74% or 5.04 points to 92.86
- Novagold (TSX:NG): Rose 2.94% or 0.17 points to 5.95
- BRP Inc (TSX:DOO): Climbed 2.73% or 2.56 points to 96.49
Top Losers:
- Capstone Mining (TSX:CS): Declined 3.95% or 0.41 points to 9.96
- First Quantum Minerals (TSX:FM): Fell 4.30% or 0.79 points to 17.58
- Ero Copper (TSX:ERO): Dropped 3.39% or 1.02 points to 29.11
In Commodities Trading:
- Crude Oil for September delivery fell 1.26 points to 79.58 a barrel.
- September Brent Oil Contract is down by 1.43% or 1.21 drop to 83.64 a barrel.
- Gold Futures for August delivery rose 20.50 points to 2,449.40 a troy ounce.
Currency Markets:
- USD/CAD is again at 1.36 after testing over 1.37 yesterday.
- EUR/CAD is down from yesterday's 1.49 at 1.48.
- The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.21% at 104.102
Main Economic Events:
Today's main economic event in Canada is the inflation numbers. Yearly CPI decreased to 2,7% while the housing starts declined by nearly 20k to 241.7k in June.
