Investing.com – Japan equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Paper & Pulp, Railway & Bus and Real Estate sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 gained 0.91% to hit a new 5-year high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Kobe Steel, Ltd. (T:5406), which rose 11.62% or 48.0 points to trade at 461.0 at the close. Nippon Sheet Glass Co., Ltd. (T:5202) added 10.55% or 40.0 points to end at 419.0 and Konami Corp. (T:9766) was up 7.32% or 340.0 points to 4985.0 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Furukawa Electric Co., Ltd. (T:5801), which lost 11.71% or 326.0 points to trade at 2458.0 in late trade. Mitsui Fudosan Co., Ltd. (T:8801) declined 4.21% or 81.5 points to end at 1855.0 and Chugai Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. (T:4519) shed 3.97% or 183.0 points to 4429.0.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 2052 to 1409 and 231 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was unchanged 0% to 24.73.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for December delivery was down 1.47% or 0.57 to $38.22 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in January fell 1.42% or 0.58 to hit $40.35 a barrel, while the December Gold Futures contract fell 0.02% or 0.40 to trade at $1946.40 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was down 0.01% to 103.45, while EUR/JPY rose 0.02% to 122.42.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.04% at 92.552.
