Investing.com – Japan equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Paper & Pulp, Shipbuilding and Steel sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 rose 1.44%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were SUMCO Corp. (T:3436), which rose 7.33% or 97.0 points to trade at 1421.0 at the close. Tokyo Electron Ltd. (T:8035) added 6.54% or 930.0 points to end at 15145.0 and Komatsu Ltd. (T:6301) was up 6.18% or 162.5 points to 2793.0 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Nippon Electric Glass Co., Ltd. (T:5214), which lost 6.35% or 187.0 points to trade at 2759.0 in late trade. Tokyu Fudosan (T:3289) declined 4.11% or 27.0 points to end at 630.0 and Chubu Electric Power Co., Inc. (T:9502) shed 3.52% or 59.5 points to 1633.0.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 2866 to 717 and 124 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was up 0.14% to 28.15.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for December delivery was up 0.06% or 0.04 to $67.08 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in January fell 0.13% or 0.10 to hit $77.27 a barrel, while the December Gold Futures contract fell 0.21% or 2.60 to trade at $1225.00 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was up 0.40% to 112.82, while EUR/JPY rose 0.38% to 128.30.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.17% at 96.51.
