Investing.com – Japan equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Paper & Pulp, Railway & Bus and Real Estate sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 added 1.78% to hit a new 3-month high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Mitsui Chemicals, Inc. (T:4183), which rose 8.58% or 191.0 points to trade at 2416.0 at the close. TOTO Ltd. (T:5332) added 5.44% or 230.0 points to end at 4460.0 and Secom Co., Ltd. (T:9735) was up 5.25% or 504.0 points to 10105.0 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Yokogawa Electric Corp. (T:6841), which lost 6.50% or 120.0 points to trade at 1725.0 in late trade. Kuraray Co., Ltd. (T:3405) declined 5.58% or 66.0 points to end at 1117.0 and JFE Holdings, Inc. (T:5411) shed 3.75% or 31.0 points to 796.0.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 2414 to 1079 and 199 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was unchanged 0% to 21.30.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for September delivery was down 0.37% or 0.16 to $42.51 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in October fell 0.40% or 0.18 to hit $45.25 a barrel, while the December Gold Futures contract fell 0.64% or 12.50 to trade at $1936.50 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was down 0.17% to 106.70, while EUR/JPY rose 0.19% to 126.18.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.27% at 93.160.
