Investing.com – Japan equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Paper & Pulp, Glass and Chemical, Petroleum & Plastic sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 lost 0.05%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Comsys Holdings Corp. (T:1721), which rose 2.40% or 70.0 points to trade at 2984.0 at the close. Amada Co., Ltd. (T:6113) added 2.37% or 27.0 points to end at 1164.0 and Fast Retailing Co., Ltd. (T:9983) was up 2.14% or 1030.0 points to 49270.0 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Pacific Metals Co., Ltd. (T:5541), which lost 6.82% or 270.0 points to trade at 3690.0 in late trade. Shiseido Co., Ltd. (T:4911) declined 5.35% or 403.0 points to end at 7135.0 and Mitsui Mining and Smelting Co. (T:5706) shed 4.64% or 160.0 points to 3285.0.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 2663 to 781 and 171 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was up 7.14% to 17.11.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for September delivery was up 0.02% or 0.01 to $65.02 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in October rose 0.14% or 0.10 to hit $70.86 a barrel, while the December Gold Futures contract rose 0.14% or 1.70 to trade at $1186.70 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was up 0.05% to 110.81, while EUR/JPY rose 0.38% to 126.15.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.22% at 96.38.
