Investing.com – Japan equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Transportation Equipment, Communication and Railway & Bus sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 declined 0.12%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Advantest Corp. (T:6857), which rose 6.28% or 156.0 points to trade at 2641.0 at the close. Matsui Securities Co., Ltd. (T:8628) added 4.59% or 49.0 points to end at 1116.0 and Tokyo Electric Power Co., Inc. (T:9501) was up 3.47% or 18.0 points to 536.5 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Eisai Co., Ltd. (T:4523), which lost 10.09% or 1121.0 points to trade at 9989.0 in late trade. Toho Zinc Co., Ltd. (T:5707) declined 4.31% or 175.0 points to end at 3890.0 and Mitsubishi Motors Corp. (T:7211) shed 4.03% or 36.0 points to 856.5.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 2450 to 943 and 187 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 2.70% to 16.21.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for September delivery was down 0.23% or 0.16 to $69.14 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in September rose 0.58% or 0.43 to hit $74.36 a barrel, while the August Gold Futures contract fell 0.31% or 3.80 to trade at $1228.00 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was down 0.24% to 110.71, while EUR/JPY fell 0.32% to 129.74.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.05% at 94.03.
