Investing.com – Japan equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Shipbuilding, Transportation Equipment and Marine Transport sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 lost 1.60%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Daiichi Sankyo Co., Ltd. (T:4568), which rose 5.64% or 309.0 points to trade at 5790.0 at the close. Kao Corp. (T:4452) added 4.67% or 400.0 points to end at 8957.0 and NEC Corp. (T:6701) was up 4.14% or 155.0 points to 3900.0 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Taiyo Yuden Co., Ltd. (T:6976), which lost 14.48% or 389.0 points to trade at 2298.0 in late trade. Alps Electric Co., Ltd. (T:6770) declined 10.65% or 250.0 points to end at 2097.0 and Chiyoda Corp. (T:6366) shed 10.23% or 36.0 points to 316.0.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 2087 to 1450 and 206 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was up 5.67% to 16.76.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for June delivery was up 0.02% or 0.01 to $62.26 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in July fell 0.29% or 0.21 to hit $71.03 a barrel, while the June Gold Futures contract rose 0.05% or 0.65 to trade at $1284.45 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was down 0.10% to 110.64, while EUR/JPY rose 0.03% to 124.06.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.09% at 97.178.
