Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the REITs, Healthcare and Real Estate sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite lost 0.16%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Cineplex Inc . (TSX:CGX), which rose 7.46% or 0.59 points to trade at 8.50 at the close. Ballard Power Systems Inc (TSX:BLDP) added 4.93% or 1.16 points to end at 24.71 and IAMGold Corporation (TSX:IMG) was up 3.87% or 0.21 points to 5.64 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Ero Copper Corp (TSX:ERO), which lost 4.63% or 0.88 points to trade at 18.12 in late trade. H&R Real Estate Investment Trust (TSX:HR_u) declined 4.16% or 0.44 points to end at 10.13 and Artis REIT (TSX:AX_u) shed 3.84% or 0.30 points to 7.52.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 601 to 399 and 92 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was unchanged 0% to 11.27.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.13% or 2.40 to $1787.60 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August fell 0.91% or 0.37 to hit $40.28 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract fell 0.86% or 0.37 to trade at $42.77 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.12% to 0.7379, while CAD/EUR rose 0.06% to 0.6562.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.13% at 97.175.
