Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Energy, Industrials and IT sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite added 0.73%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Frontera Energy Corp (TSX:FEC), which rose 22.39% or 0.75 points to trade at 4.10 at the close. Whitecap Resources Inc . (TSX:WCP) added 16.49% or 0.31 points to end at 2.19 and ShawCor Ltd . (TSX:SCL) was up 14.97% or 0.25 points to 1.92 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Aurora Cannabis Inc (TSX:ACB), which lost 12.70% or 2.590 points to trade at 17.810 in late trade. Hexo Corp (TSX:HEXO) declined 8.22% or 0.060 points to end at 0.670 and Cineplex Inc . (TSX:CGX) shed 4.29% or 0.61 points to 13.60.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 731 to 323 and 91 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was unchanged 0% to 11.27.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.29% or 5.00 to $1750.60 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July rose 4.91% or 1.57 to hit $33.53 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract rose 3.46% or 1.20 to trade at $35.85 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.31% to 0.7193, while CAD/EUR fell 0.18% to 0.6552.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.19% at 99.177.
