Investing.com – Taiwan equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Semiconductor, Electronics and Textile sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Taiwan, the Taiwan Weighted gained 0.61% to hit a new all time high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Taiwan Weighted were Century Iron And Steel Industrial Co Ltd (TW:9958), which rose 9.97% or 3.40 points to trade at 37.50 at the close. Chaintech Technology Corp (TW:2425) added 9.97% or 1.65 points to end at 18.20 and Formosa Sumco Technology Corp (TW:3532) was up 9.96% or 11.50 points to 127.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Taimide Tech Inc (TW:3645), which lost 8.30% or 8.10 points to trade at 89.50 in late trade. Hwa Fong Rubber Ind Co Ltd (TW:2109) declined 8.14% or 1.25 points to end at 14.10 and Tatung Co (TW:2371) shed 7.13% or 1.95 points to 25.40.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 505 to 270 and 114 ended unchanged on the Taiwan Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for February delivery was up 0.05% or 0.03 to $64.00 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in March fell 0.03% or 0.02 to hit $69.36 a barrel, while the February Gold Futures contract fell 0.82% or 11.00 to trade at $1328.20 a troy ounce.
USD/TWD was up 0.02% to 29.563, while TWD/CNY rose 0.18% to 0.2177.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.10% at 90.56.
