Investing.com – India stocks were higher after the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Real Estate, Banking and Auto sectors led shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the S&P CNX Nifty added 0.61%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index added 0.63%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P CNX Nifty were Housing Development Finance Corp. (NSE:HDFC), which rose 3.81% or 44.65 points to trade at 1216.80 at the close. Meanwhile, Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (NSE:MRTI) added 3.22% or 146.05 points to end at 4682.30 and Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (NSE:MAHM) was up 2.30% or 28.10 points to 1249.70 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Vedanta Ltd (NSE:VDAN), which fell 5.48% or 5.00 points to trade at 86.20 at the close. Bharat Petroleum Corp. Ltd. (NSE:BPCL) declined 4.04% or 35.70 points to end at 847.80 and TATA STEEL LIMITED (NSE:TISC) was down 3.75% or 7.85 points to 201.40.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Housing Development Finance Corp. (BO:HDFC) which rose 3.46% to 1213.55, Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (BO:MRTI) which was up 3.12% to settle at 4674.75 and Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (BO:MAHM) which gained 2.48% to close at 1251.75.
The worst performers were Vedanta Ltd (BO:VDAN) which was down 5.43% to 86.25 in late trade, TATA STEEL LIMITED (BO:TISC) which lost 3.87% to settle at 201.35 and Hindalco Industries Ltd. (BO:HALC) which was down 3.54% to 68.15 at the close.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 785 to 634 and 8 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 411 fell and 331 advanced, while 1 ended unchanged.
Shares in Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (NSE:MRTI) rose to all time highs; up 3.22% or 146.05 to 4682.30. Shares in TATA STEEL LIMITED (NSE:TISC) fell to 52-week lows; losing 3.75% or 7.85 to 201.40. Shares in Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (BO:MRTI) rose to all time highs; gaining 3.12% or 141.65 to 4674.75. Shares in TATA STEEL LIMITED (BO:TISC) fell to 52-week lows; falling 3.87% or 8.10 to 201.35. Shares in Hindalco Industries Ltd. (BO:HALC) fell to 3-years lows; down 3.54% or 2.50 to 68.15.
The India Vix, which measures the implied volatility of S&P CNX Nifty options, was down 0.45% to 21.5700.
Gold for December delivery was down 0.51% or 5.80 to $1125.90 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in November rose 0.97% or 0.43 to hit $44.86 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract rose 0.93% or 0.44 to trade at $47.78 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.54% to 65.980, while EUR/INR fell 0.56% to 74.0960.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.05% at 96.19.
