Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Healthcare, IT and Materials sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite gained 0.84%
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Hut 8 Mining Corp (TSX:HUT), which rose 13.82% or 1.010 points to trade at 8.320 at the close. Shopify Inc (TSX:SHOP) added 9.92% or 101.98 points to end at 1129.72 and Converge Technology Solutions Corp (TSX:CTS) was up 7.37% or 0.715 points to 10.415 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Altus Group Limited (TSX:AIF), which lost 8.78% or 5.01 points to trade at 52.03 in late trade. Parex Resources Inc (TSX:PXT) declined 4.62% or 1.31 points to end at 27.07 and Innergex Renewable Energy Inc . (TSX:INE) shed 4.40% or 0.81 points to 17.60.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 3.96% to 22.58.
As of 3:45 ET in commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was up 0.21% or 3.80 to $1807.90 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in March rose 2.17% or 1.96 to hit $92.23 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract rose 2.37% or 2.16 to trade at $93.27 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.54% to 0.7843, while CAD/EUR fell 0.65% to 0.6848.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.05% at 95.430.
