Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Healthcare, Materials and Energy sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite declined 0.37%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Air Canada (TSX:AC), which rose 4.78% or 1.10 points to trade at 24.11 at the close. Birchcliff Energy Ltd . (TSX:BIR) added 3.58% or 0.240 points to end at 6.940 and ATS Automation Tooling Systems Inc. (TSX:ATA) was up 3.41% or 1.47 points to 44.60 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Bausch Health Companies Inc (TSX:BHC), which lost 8.56% or 3.02 points to trade at 32.25 in late trade. Gibson Energy Inc . (TSX:GEI) declined 5.36% or 1.36 points to end at 24.00 and Westport Fuel Systems Inc (TSX:WPRT) shed 4.99% or 0.23 points to 4.47.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 620 to 431 and 101 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.43% or 7.65 to $1788.15 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude Oil WTI Futures for delivery in December fell 0.63% or 0.53 to hit $83.52 a barrel, while the January Brent Oil Futures contract fell 0.28% or 0.24 to trade at $84.47 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.23% to 0.8065, while CAD/EUR fell 0.02% to 0.6963.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.21% at 94.078.
