At the market open in Toronto, the TSX Composite Index climbed 0.87%. The TSX Venture and the TSX Smallcap also increased. The TSX Venture rose 0.98%, while the Smallcap was up by 1.33%.

- Torex Gold (TSX:TXG): Dropped 0.73% or 0.19 points to 25.88
- Aya Gold & Silver: Declined 1.37% or 0.220 points to 15.830
- First Majestic Silver (TSX:AG): Fell 0.26% or 0.02 points to 7.73
In Commodities Trading:
- Crude Oil for october delivery climbed 1.41 points to 74.42 a barrel.
- October Brent Oil Contract rose by 1.68% or 1.30 points to 78.52 a barrel.
- Gold Futures for December delivery climbed 27.50 points to 2,544.20 a troy ounce.
Currency Markets:
- USD/CAD has dropped below 1.36 today and trading at 1.3553 at the time of writing this article.
- EUR/CAD is stable at 1.51.
- The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.42% at 100.972.
Main Economic Events:
Today's main economic event for the Canadian markets are the sales numbers. Retail sales data has met the expectations with a 0.3% decline in June; while the core retail sales were better than expected and increased 0.3% MoM.
