Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Chemicals, Tobacco and Fixed Line Telecommunications sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 0.25%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Burberry Group PLC (LON:BRBY), which rose 3.61% or 48.000 points to trade at 1379.000 at the close. Shire PLC (LON:SHP) added 2.55% or 132.00 points to end at 5315.00 and Johnson Matthey PLC (LON:JMAT) was up 1.93% or 62.00 points to 3272.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included International Consolidated Airlines Group S.A. (LON:ICAG), which lost 3.56% or 14.80 points to trade at 401.00 in late trade. Next PLC (LON:NXT) declined 2.84% or 143.00 points to end at 4897.00 and EasyJet PLC (LON:EZJ) shed 2.71% or 29.000 points to 1041.000.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1137 to 1005 and 429 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold for December delivery was up 0.01% or 0.15 to $1317.95 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in November rose 0.18% or 0.08 to hit $43.94 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract fell 0.26% or 0.12 to trade at $45.83 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.45% to 1.2972, while EUR/GBP rose 0.37% to 0.8610.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.11% at 95.90.
