Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Industrial Metals & Mining, Construction & Materials and Oil & Gas Producers sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 added 0.29% to hit a new 6-month high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Antofagasta PLC (LON:ANTO), which rose 5.28% or 96.00 points to trade at 1,914.00 at the close. Glencore PLC (LON:GLEN) added 4.81% or 19.25 points to end at 419.20 and Anglo American PLC (LON:AAL) was up 4.79% or 88.70 points to 1,939.90 in late trade.
Biggest losers included JD Sports Fashion PLC (LON:JD), which lost 4.07% or 4.80 points to trade at 113.10 in late trade. Vodafone Group PLC (LON:VOD) declined 4.01% or 2.78 points to end at 66.52 and Rentokil Initial PLC (LON:RTO) shed 3.07% or 15.20 points to 479.60.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 883 to 878 and 690 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was up 0.67% or 14.45 to $2,180.55 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April rose 2.64% or 2.05 to hit $79.61 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract rose 2.38% or 1.95 to trade at $83.87 a barrel.
GBP/USD was unchanged 0.09% to 1.28, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.19% to 0.86.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.21% at 102.33.
