Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Tobacco, Industrial Transportation and Gas, Water & Multiutilities sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 0.51%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were BAE Systems PLC (LON:BAES), which rose 3.94% or 23.50 points to trade at 619.50 at the close. Johnson Matthey PLC (LON:JMAT) added 2.65% or 75.00 points to end at 2910.00 and GKN PLC (LON:GKN) was up 2.60% or 8.80 points to 347.60 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Provident Financial (LON:PFG), which lost 5.79% or 46.00 points to trade at 748.00 in late trade. Imperial Brands PLC (LON:IMB) declined 1.85% or 61.50 points to end at 3266.00 and Randgold Resources Ltd (LON:RRS) shed 1.72% or 130.00 points to 7415.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1172 to 816 and 445 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 1.04% or 13.74 to $1311.46 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in November fell 0.97% or 0.49 to hit $49.95 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract fell 0.85% or 0.47 to trade at $55.15 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.85% to 1.3478, while EUR/GBP rose 0.68% to 0.8851.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.27% at 91.90.
