Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Fixed Line Telecommunications, Mining and Electrical sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 rose 0.64% to hit a new all time high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Old Mutual PLC (LON:OML), which rose 3.02% or 6.80 points to trade at 231.70 at the close. Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES) added 2.81% or 39.00 points to end at 1429.00 and AstraZeneca PLC (LON:AZN) was up 2.45% or 122.50 points to 5121.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Provident Financial (LON:PFG), which lost 3.02% or 28.00 points to trade at 898.00 in late trade. Kingfisher PLC (LON:KGF) declined 1.48% or 5.11 points to end at 339.90 and Capita PLC (LON:CPI) shed 1.18% or 4.80 points to 400.90.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 975 to 832 and 212 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.78% or 10.10 to $1307.30 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February rose 0.92% or 0.55 to hit $60.39 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract rose 1.10% or 0.73 to trade at $66.89 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.71% to 1.3533, while EUR/GBP fell 0.06% to 0.8884.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.56% at 91.82.
