Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Monday, as losses in the Oil Equipment Services & Distribution, Industrial Engineering and Industrial Transportation sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 declined 0.38%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES), which rose 1.97% or 16.40 points to trade at 850.00 at the close. Rio Tinto PLC (LON:RIO) added 1.62% or 68.50 points to end at 4299.50 and Persimmon PLC (LON:PSN) was up 0.80% or 17.00 points to 2155.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included United Utilities Group PLC (LON:UU), which lost 3.03% or 26.20 points to trade at 837.40 in late trade. Pearson PLC (LON:PSON) declined 2.76% or 23.40 points to end at 825.80 and BAE Systems PLC (LON:BAES) shed 2.72% or 12.80 points to 457.20.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1522 to 584 and 291 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.73% or 9.65 to $1328.35 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May fell 0.03% or 0.02 to hit $59.02 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract rose 0.21% or 0.14 to trade at $66.89 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.30% to 1.3170, while EUR/GBP rose 0.25% to 0.8590.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.11% at 96.047.
