Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Fixed Line Telecommunications, Oil & Gas Producers and Mobile Telecommunications sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 fell 0.56%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Berkeley Group Holdings PLC (LON:BKGH), which rose 4.36% or 226.00 points to trade at 5412.00 at the close. Sage Group PLC (LON:SGE) added 3.90% or 28.60 points to end at 762.60 and London Stock Exchange Group PLC (LON:LSE) was up 3.61% or 278.00 points to 7986.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Tui AG (LON:TUIT), which lost 5.53% or 49.00 points to trade at 837.00 in late trade. Surgutneftegaz L (LON:SNGSyq) declined 5.25% or 0.44 points to end at 7.95 and Burberry Group PLC (LON:BRBY) shed 4.99% or 113.00 points to 2150.00.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1091 to 1044 and 218 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was down 0.01% or 0.15 to $1557.75 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in March fell 2.45% or 1.43 to hit $56.95 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract fell 1.87% or 1.21 to trade at $63.38 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.59% to 1.3123, while EUR/GBP fell 0.52% to 0.8447.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.06% at 97.350.
