Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Monday, as losses in the Insurance, Household Goods & Home Construction and Industrial Transportation sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 declined 0.78%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Paddy Power Betfair PLC (LON:PPB), which rose 3.17% or 175.00 points to trade at 5700.00 at the close. Schroders PLC (LON:SDR) added 2.68% or 68.00 points to end at 2609.00 and Standard Life Aberdeen PLC (LON:SLA) was up 2.64% or 6.30 points to 244.60 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Old Mutual Ltd (LON:OMU), which lost 3.36% or 3.84 points to trade at 110.32 in late trade. Persimmon PLC (LON:PSN) declined 2.71% or 61.00 points to end at 2187.00 and Admiral Group PLC (LON:ADML) shed 1.87% or 40.00 points to 2100.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1191 to 903 and 321 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was down 0.54% or 7.05 to $1292.25 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April rose 1.12% or 0.63 to hit $56.70 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract rose 1.08% or 0.71 to trade at $66.45 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.96% to 1.3140, while EUR/GBP fell 0.93% to 0.8550.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.06% at 97.213.
