Investing.com – India equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Banking, Consumer Durables and Oil & Gas sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 rose 1.50% to hit a new 1-month high, while the BSE Sensex 30 index gained 1.21%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (NS:KTKM), which rose 6.80% or 50.55 points to trade at 793.90 at the close. Bosch Ltd (NS:BOSH) added 4.62% or 1008.55 points to end at 22828.00 and Bharat Petroleum Corp. Ltd. (NS:BPCL) was up 4.51% or 30.80 points to 713.20 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Wipro Ltd . (NS:WIPR), which lost 1.35% or 6.50 points to trade at 475.00 in late trade. Bharti Airtel Ltd. (NS:BRTI) declined 1.33% or 4.20 points to end at 312.30 and HCL Technologies Ltd (NS:HCLT) shed 1.20% or 10.15 points to 838.65.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Housing Development Finance Corp. (BO:HDFC) which rose 4.31% to 1336.00, Adani Ports & Special Economic Zone (BO:APSE) which was up 3.61% to settle at 303.85 and Hero MotoCorp Limited (BO:HROM) which gained 3.42% to close at 3240.35.
The worst performers were Wipro Ltd. (BO:WIPR) which was down 1.59% to 473.45 in late trade, Bharti Airtel Ltd (BO:BRTI) which lost 1.52% to settle at 311.55 and Reliance Industries Ltd (BO:RELI) which was down 1.06% to 1016.70 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 868 to 625 and 65 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1476 rose and 1215 declined, while 193 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India Vix, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 0.75% to 15.1700.
In commodities trading, Gold for February delivery was down 0.67% or 8.10 to $1202.70 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in March fell 0.68% or 0.36 to hit $52.82 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract fell 0.69% or 0.38 to trade at $55.06 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.08% to 68.117, while EUR/INR rose 0.16% to 73.2362.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.22% at 100.05.
