40 years of trading oil I have learned one thing. Politics will always defeat the reality of what oil prices should be ( temporarily) paper trading barrels vs. Physical barrels are trading at an 83:1 ratio. Crack spreads ( refining margins) have never been this high with oil this low in history. The recent surge in oil supply released ( Hormuz opening) will quickly be refined and consumed. Oil prices always overshoot to the high side and also the low side. Policy uncertainty has made oil too volatile to hold. Investor VaR has collapsed by c.$5B. Open interest is at the lowest level in years. Large Commercial/Producers remain positioned long at historically high levels. Interestingly as OI is low, which usually is a bottom condition.

There sure is a lot of optimism that normal flows thru the strait plus extra flows westerly from Arab nations will resume at an ultra fast pace....Venezuela is also magically going to produce more.... there are $B of dollars and rebuilding needing to happen first....remember that 1B+ barrels haven't been flowing for 4 months... ooooh but 30M made it thru last week
