Investing.com – U.S. equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Oil & Gas, Consumer Services and Healthcare sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average declined 0.02%, while the S&P 500 index fell 0.17%, and the NASDAQ Composite index lost 0.19%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Cisco Systems Inc (NASDAQ:CSCO), which rose 2.53% or 0.83 points to trade at 33.65 at the close. Coca-Cola Company (NYSE:KO) added 1.76% or 0.71 points to end at 41.15 and 3M Company (NYSE:MMM) was up 0.86% or 1.56 points to 183.26 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Chevron Corporation (NYSE:CVX), which lost 1.77% or 1.99 points to trade at 110.58 in late trade. Exxon Mobil Corporation (NYSE:XOM) declined 0.93% or 0.77 points to end at 82.39 and Caterpillar Inc (NYSE:CAT) shed 0.71% or 0.70 points to 98.32.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Stericycle Inc (NASDAQ:SRCL) which rose 7.55% to 83.23, NetApp Inc (NASDAQ:NTAP) which was up 4.52% to settle at 40.69 and International Flavors & Fragrances Inc (NYSE:IFF) which gained 3.97% to close at 123.89.
The worst performers were TripAdvisor Inc (NASDAQ:TRIP) which was down 10.59% to 47.12 in late trade, Range Resources Corporation (NYSE:RRC) which lost 5.00% to settle at 31.35 and Coty Inc (NYSE:COTY) which was down 4.83% to 18.82 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Atlantic Alliance Partnership Corp (NASDAQ:AAPC) which rose 138.64% to 18.90, Power Solutions International Inc (NASDAQ:PSIX) which was up 64.47% to settle at 6.25 and Superconductor Technologies Inc (NASDAQ:SCON) which gained 32.17% to close at 1.5200.
The worst performers were ConforMIS Inc (NASDAQ:CFMS) which was down 35.38% to 5.53 in late trade, My Size Inc (NASDAQ:MYSZ) which lost 30.31% to settle at 4.46 and Acura Pharmaceuticals Inc (NASDAQ:ACUR) which was down 24.15% to 0.880 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1900 to 1235 and 84 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 1492 fell and 993 advanced, while 115 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was up 0.08% to 11.98.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was up 0.64% or 7.90 to $1241.00 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in March rose 0.55% or 0.29 to hit $53.40 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract fell 0.04% or 0.02 to trade at $55.73 a barrel.
EUR/USD was up 0.71% to 1.0674, while USD/JPY fell 0.86% to 113.16.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.62% at 100.45.
