Investing.com – Brazil equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Real Estate, Public Utilities and Electric Power sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa added 2.41% to hit a new 1-month high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Bovespa were CEMIG - Companhia Energetica Minas Gerais Pref (SA:CMIG4), which rose 12.06% or 0.93 points to trade at 8.64 at the close. BR Malls Participacoes SA (SA:BRML3) added 8.51% or 1.09 points to end at 13.90 and Centrais Eletricas Brasileiras SA (SA:ELET3) was up 7.76% or 1.67 points to 23.20 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Cielo SA (SA:CIEL3), which lost 1.57% or 0.41 points to trade at 25.77 in late trade. Embraer SA (SA:EMBR3) declined 1.55% or 0.26 points to end at 16.49 and Fibria Celulose SA (SA:FIBR3) shed 1.26% or 0.40 points to 31.30.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 267 to 81 and 29 ended unchanged on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was down 3.40% to 32.72 a new 1-month low.
In commodities trading, Gold for February delivery was down 0.15% or 1.75 to $1194.85 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February rose 1.61% or 0.84 to hit $53.09 a barrel, while the March US coffee C contract rose 0.39% or 0.58 to trade at $149.73 .
USD/BRL was down 0.29% to 3.1880, while EUR/BRL rose 0.06% to 3.3855.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.29% at 101.40.
