Investing.com – Russia stocks were lower after the close on Friday, as losses in the Oil & Gas, Mining and Telecoms sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Moscow, the MICEX fell 1.79%.
The best performers of the session on the MICEX were Bashneft ANK ao (MCX:BANE), which rose 2.76% or 56.0 points to trade at 2088.0 at the close. Meanwhile, ANK Bashneft OAO Pref (MCX:BANE_p) added 1.72% or 30.5 points to end at 1799.0 and Aeroflot (MCX:AFLT) was up 1.45% or 0.82 points to 57.33 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were SG mechel (MCX:MTLR), which fell 4.19% or 2.86 points to trade at 65.36 at the close. NOVATEK (MCX:NVTK) declined 3.93% or 23.90 points to end at 584.30 and Magnit (MCX:MGNT) was down 3.84% or 471.0 points to 11799.0.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Moscow Stock Exchange by 118 to 88 and 8 ended unchanged.
Shares in ANK Bashneft OAO Pref (MCX:BANE_p) rose to 52-week highs; gaining 1.72% or 30.5 to 1799.0.
The Russian VIX, which measures the implied volatility of MICEX options, was down 1.65% to 39.370 a new 1-month high.
Gold for February delivery was up 2.14% or 22.70 to $1083.90 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in January fell 2.78% or 1.14 to hit $39.94 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract fell 1.59% or 0.69 to trade at $43.15 a barrel.
USD/RUB was up 0.74% to 68.085, while EUR/RUB rose 0.21% to 73.941.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.67% at 98.47.
