Investing.com – Japan equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Marine Transport, Railway & Bus and Transport sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 fell 0.01%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Meidensha Corp. (T:6508), which rose 5.07% or 19.0 points to trade at 394.0 at the close. Toshiba Corp. (T:6502) added 5.07% or 10.6 points to end at 219.8 and Advantest Corp. (T:6857) was up 4.52% or 87.0 points to 2013.0 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Showa Denko K.K. (T:4004), which lost 2.95% or 52.0 points to trade at 1712.0 in late trade. Hitachi Construction Machinery Co (T:6305) declined 2.54% or 66.0 points to end at 2531.0 and JX Holdings, Inc. (T:5020) shed 2.38% or 11.7 points to 479.6.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1737 to 1238 and 363 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 1.96% to 20.49.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for June delivery was up 0.63% or 0.32 to $51.17 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in June rose 0.76% or 0.40 to hit $53.33 a barrel, while the June Gold Futures contract fell 0.15% or 1.90 to trade at $1281.50 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was up 0.11% to 108.98, while EUR/JPY rose 0.61% to 117.31.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.35% at 99.36.
