Investing.com – Brazil equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Public Utilities, Electric Power and Financials sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa gained 0.01%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Bovespa were Smiles ON (SA:SMLE3), which rose 3.65% or 1.75 points to trade at 49.64 at the close. Lojas Renner SA (SA:LREN3) added 3.22% or 0.80 points to end at 25.65 and Raia Drogasil SA (SA:RADL3) was up 2.75% or 1.610 points to 60.200 in late trade.
Biggest losers included EcoRodovias SA (SA:ECOR3), which lost 3.53% or 0.30 points to trade at 8.20 in late trade. Qualicorp SA (SA:QUAL3) declined 3.09% or 0.70 points to end at 21.95 and Fibria Celulose SA (SA:FIBR3) shed 3.03% or 0.65 points to 20.81.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 153 to 142 and 20 ended unchanged on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was up 1.94% to 34.17 a new 1-month high.
In commodities trading, Gold for December delivery was down 0.33% or 4.45 to $1325.25 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in October rose 1.20% or 0.56 to hit $47.33 a barrel, while the December US coffee C contract rose 0.88% or 1.26 to trade at $144.38 .
USD/BRL was up 0.12% to 3.2289, while EUR/BRL rose 0.25% to 3.6416.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.01% at 94.72.
