Mariners 11, Tigers 9
Pinch-hitter Franklin Gutierrez hit a grand slam to cap a
five-run eighth as the Seattle Mariners out-slugged the Detroit
Tigers.
Gutierrez's opposite-field shot off reliever Neftali Feliz
(1-3) was the second grand slam of his career. His other grand
slam came on May 27, 2008, against the Chicago White Sox.
Designated hitter Nelson Cruz homered and second baseman
Robinson Cano had three hits, scored twice and drove in a run
for the Mariners.
Right fielder J.D. Martinez and left fielder Yoenis Cespedes
hit two-run home runs for the Tigers.

Rays 1, Phillies 0
Nathan Karns combined with five relievers on a four-hitter
and hit his first major league homer as the Tampa Bay Rays beat
the Philadelphia Phillies 1-0.
Karns surrendered three hits in five shutout innings while
striking out four and walking two. He also hit a batter while
improving to 5-5.

Mets 7, Nationals 2
Pinch hitter Eric Campbell hit a two-run single in the
seventh inning to give New York the lead before the Mets added
four runs in the ninth on singles by Curtis Granderson, Ruben
Tejada and Daniel Murphy to beat the Washington Nationals 7-2.
Wilmer Flores, who had two hits and two RBIs, drove in the
fourth run of the inning on a ground out.

Yankees 3, Orioles 2
Second baseman Brendan Ryan hit a tie-breaking double with
two out in the bottom of the sixth inning as the New York
Yankees beat the Baltimore Orioles.
Ryan snapped a 2-2 deadlock by hitting a fastball from
Baltimore left-hander Chen Wei-Yin down the left-field line
allowing shortstop Didi Gregorius to score.

Braves 4, Dodgers 3
First baseman Chris Johnson had three hits and two RBIS
while starter Alex Wood overcame two early Dodgers homers as the
Braves beat the Dodgers.
Wood (7-6) allowed six hits and three runs over 6-2/3
innings.

Brewers 8, Indians 1
Matt Garza threw six shutout innings in his first start
since returning from the disabled list while shortstop Jean
Segura hit his fourth home run of the season as the Brewers
completed an 8-1 victory over the Cleveland Indians.
Garza (5-10) had been sidelined since July 2 with a
fatigued right shoulder. He struck out four, gave up six hits
and walked two, but was helped in large part by his defense,
which turned three double plays for him and four for the game.

Astros 8, Red Sox 3
Rookie right-hander Vince Velasquez earned his first career
victory as the Houston Astros beat the Boston Red Sox 8-3.
Velasquez (1-1) worked six innings, allowing seven hits and
three runs while recording seven strikeouts.
The Astros erased a 3-1 deficit with a four-run fifth
inning.

Royals 3, Pirates 1
Jarrod Dyson drove in two runs in the eighth inning as the
Kansas City Royals beat the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Left fielder Dyson's single scored second baseman Omar
Infante and right fielder Alex Rios. Shortstop Alcides Escobar
then drove in Dyson for the final run.

Cardinals 8, White Sox 5
Matt Holliday slugged a grand slam homer while right hander
Michael Wacha collected his 11th victory as the St. Louis
Cardinals beat the Chicago White Sox.
Holliday launched a first-pitch shot to left in the fourth
inning off White Sox left-hander Carlos Rodon for his sixth
career grand slam.
Wacha allowed five earned runs on four hits, walked two and
struck out eight, while Trevor Rosenthal earned his 28th save.

Rangers 9, Rockies 0
Left-hander Matt Harrison gave the Texas Rangers a huge
boost by pitching six scoreless innings in a 9-0 romp over the
Colorado Rockies.
The victory was Harrison's first in the big leagues since
May 8, 2014. He went on the disabled list six days later with a
back condition that led to season-ending spinal fusion surgery.
He won 14 games for the Rangers in 2011 and 18 the following
year. But since the beginning of 2013, Harrison has undergone
four surgeries, three on his back.
Right fielder Choo Shin-Soo hit for the cycle with a triple
in the ninth and drove in three runs to support Harrison.

Cubs 5, Reds 4 (13 innings)
Kyle Schwarber hit a two-run, game-tying home run in the
ninth inning and a go-ahead solo shot in the 13th to lift the
Chicago Cubs to a 5-4 victory over the Cincinnati Reds.
Schwarber finished 4-for-7 with a double, two homers and
four RBIs.

Marlins 3, Diamondbacks 0
Miami Marlins left fielder Michael Morse homered while right
hander Mat Latos gave up four singles and a walk in seven
scoreless innings in the Marlins' 3-0 victory over the Arizona
Diamondbacks.

Blue Jays 7, A's 1
Russell Martin smacked a three-run homer while Edwin
Encarnacion and Jose Bautista added solo blasts sending the
Toronto Blue Jays to a 7-1 victory over the Oakland Athletics.
All-Star third baseman Josh Donaldson added two doubles and
an RBI.

Angels 7, Twins 0
The Los Angeles Angels scored five runs in the sixth inning
to break open a tight game and rode the pitching of starter Matt
Shoemaker and the bullpen to beat the Minnesota Twins 7-0.
Shoemaker (5-7) gave up two hits in six scoreless innings
and struck out 10 before relievers Fernando Salas and Jose
Alvarez combined for three perfect innings.

Giants 9, Padres 3
San Francisco rookie Chris Heston dominated the San Diego
Padres while the Giants hit three home runs to cruise to a 9-3
victory.
Heston (10-5), who threw a no-hitter earlier this year, was
sensational through 7-1/3 innings. He allowed one hit, two walks
and hit a batter while striking out six.
