Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Industrials, IT and Financials sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite lost 0.12%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Detour Gold Corporation (TO:DGC), which rose 11.71% or 1.85 points to trade at 17.65 at the close. Torex Gold Resources Inc (TO:TXG) added 5.06% or 1.330 points to end at 27.600 and First Majestic Silver Corp. (TO:FR) was up 4.53% or 0.54 points to 12.47 in late trade.
Biggest losers included New Gold Inc . (TO:NGD), which lost 10.57% or 0.410 points to trade at 3.470 in late trade. Canadian Energy Services & Technology Corp (TO:CEU) declined 3.63% or 0.290 points to end at 7.710 and Interfor Corp (TO:IFP) shed 2.75% or 0.39 points to 13.81.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 605 to 555 and 129 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 6.41% to 12.42.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was up 1.41% or 16.85 to $1212.85 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in March rose 0.49% or 0.26 to hit $52.89 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract rose 0.61% or 0.34 to trade at $55.66 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.77% to 0.7682, while CAD/EUR fell 0.17% to 0.7115.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.86% at 99.56.
