Investing.com – India equities were mixed at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Oil & Gas, Public Sector Undertakings and Capital Goods sectors propelled shares higher while losses in the Healthcare, Real Estate and Auto sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 rose 0.18%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index lost 0.02%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Ambuja Cements Ltd. (NS:ABUJ), which rose 5.80% or 11.95 points to trade at 218.15 at the close. Bharat Petroleum Corp. Ltd. (NS:BPCL) added 5.68% or 46.45 points to end at 864.85 and Tech Mahindra Limited (NS:TEML) was up 4.50% or 20.95 points to 486.75 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Lupin Ltd (NS:LUPN), which lost 4.34% or 75.90 points to trade at 1674.30 in late trade. Housing Development Finance Corp. (NS:HDFC) declined 1.59% or 17.90 points to end at 1108.05 and Cipla Ltd. (NS:CIPL) shed 1.21% or 6.45 points to 524.55.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd. (BO:BHEL) which rose 4.23% to 110.85, Gail (India) Ltd. (BO:GAIL) which was up 4.04% to settle at 353.10 and Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (BO:ONGC) which gained 2.95% to close at 212.55.
The worst performers were Cipla Ltd. (BO:CIPL) which was down 1.54% to 524.45 in late trade, Housing Development Finance Corp. (BO:HDFC) which lost 1.44% to settle at 1109.70 and HDFC Bank Ltd. (BO:HDBK) which was down 1.25% to 1017.85 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 710 to 687 and 75 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 424 rose and 377 declined, while 36 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India Vix, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 1.61% to 16.8400 a new 1-month low.
In commodities trading, Gold for April delivery was up 3.37% or 41.50 to $1271.30 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April rose 1.77% or 0.68 to hit $39.14 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract rose 1.61% or 0.65 to trade at $40.98 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.33% to 66.610, while EUR/INR rose 0.23% to 75.5770.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.93% at 94.81.
