Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Consumer Discretionary, IT and Materials sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite added 0.03%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Nevsun Resources Ltd (TO:NSU), which rose 13.06% or 0.550 points to trade at 4.760 at the close. Canada Goose Holdings Inc (TO:GOOS) added 4.42% or 3.55 points to end at 83.91 and Air Canada (TO:AC) was up 3.52% or 0.730 points to 21.460 in late trade.
Biggest losers included First Majestic Silver Corp. (TO:FR), which lost 8.51% or 0.83 points to trade at 8.92 in late trade. Aphria Inc (TO:APH) declined 4.40% or 0.480 points to end at 10.420 and Canopy Growth Corp (TO:WEED) shed 4.00% or 1.450 points to 34.800.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 595 to 493 and 129 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 1.85% to 13.81.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.95% or 11.80 to $1227.90 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September rose 0.06% or 0.04 to hit $67.11 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract rose 0.22% or 0.16 to trade at $72.00 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.45% to 0.7579, while CAD/EUR fell 0.02% to 0.6499.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.48% at 94.72.
