Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Healthcare, Materials and IT sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite gained 0.08%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Aphria Inc (TO:APH), which rose 22.85% or 2.610 points to trade at 14.030 at the close. Ivanhoe Mines Ltd. (TO:IVN) added 13.70% or 0.300 points to end at 2.490 and Pretium Resources Inc. (TO:PVG) was up 9.04% or 0.98 points to 11.82 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Martinrea International Inc . (TO:MRE), which lost 4.05% or 0.54 points to trade at 12.78 in late trade. Parkland Fuel Corporation (TO:PKI) declined 2.20% or 0.88 points to end at 39.09 and NexGen Energy Ltd. (TO:NXE) shed 2.00% or 0.050 points to 2.450.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 645 to 419 and 147 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 0.41% to 12.02.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 1.54% or 18.40 to $1212.40 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in October rose 1.12% or 0.76 to hit $68.59 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract rose 1.24% or 0.93 to trade at $75.66 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.38% to 0.7673, while CAD/EUR fell 0.32% to 0.6603.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.50% at 95.07.
