Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Energy, IT and Telecoms sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite rose 0.12%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Cameco Corp (TO:CCO), which rose 15.72% or 2.01 points to trade at 14.80 at the close. Cenovus Energy Inc (TO:CVE) added 8.99% or 1.08 points to end at 13.09 and Advantage Oil & Gas Ltd. (TO:AAV) was up 8.84% or 0.290 points to 3.570 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Aphria Inc (TO:APH), which lost 6.42% or 1.220 points to trade at 17.780 in late trade. Centerra Gold Inc (TO:CG) declined 5.76% or 0.32 points to end at 5.24 and Canopy Growth Corp (TO:WEED) shed 4.94% or 3.340 points to 64.300.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 588 to 509 and 95 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 5.26% to 12.07.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 1.00% or 12.00 to $1187.10 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in November rose 0.77% or 0.55 to hit $72.12 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract rose 0.59% or 0.48 to trade at $81.27 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.21% to 0.7665, while CAD/EUR rose 0.63% to 0.6583.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.76% at 94.59.
