Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Clean Technology, Utilities and IT sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite gained 0.19%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Orla Mining Ltd (TSX:OLA), which rose 9.21% or 0.48 points to trade at 5.69 at the close. Celestica Inc. (TSX:CLS) added 8.01% or 5.25 points to end at 70.80 and Innergex Renewable Energy Inc . (TSX:INE) was up 7.83% or 0.66 points to 9.09 in late trade.
Biggest losers included BlackBerry Ltd (TSX:BB), which lost 7.40% or 0.35 points to trade at 4.38 in late trade. Boyd Group Services Inc (TSX:BYD) declined 7.14% or 18.33 points to end at 238.41 and First Quantum Minerals Ltd . (TSX:FM) shed 4.76% or 0.93 points to 18.60.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 558 to 390 and 116 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 9.50% to 11.62 a new 1-month low.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was up 1.41% or 33.25 to $2,393.15 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 1.04% or 0.81 to hit $78.83 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract rose 0.69% or 0.57 to trade at $82.95 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.34% to 0.74, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.27% to 0.68.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.68% at 104.18.
