Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Clean Technology, Consumer Staples and Industrials sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite gained 0.23%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Ivanhoe Mines Ltd. (TO:IVN), which rose 6.04% or 0.180 points to trade at 3.160 at the close. Dorel Industries Inc (TO:DIIb) added 5.70% or 1.74 points to end at 32.28 and Pretium Resources Inc. (TO:PVG) was up 5.44% or 0.46 points to 8.91 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Teck Resources Ltd B (TO:TECKb), which lost 7.11% or 2.59 points to trade at 33.83 in late trade. Yamana Gold Inc (TO:YRI) declined 5.60% or 0.20 points to end at 3.37 and Westshore Terminals Investment Corp (TO:WTE) shed 4.24% or 0.92 points to 20.79.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 687 to 414 and 145 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 1.91% to 14.38 a new 1-month low.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was up 0.16% or 2.10 to $1323.80 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April rose 3.28% or 1.97 to hit $62.09 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract rose 3.07% or 1.95 to trade at $65.56 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.67% to 0.7806, while CAD/EUR rose 0.64% to 0.6338.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.01% at 90.10.
