Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the IT, Telecoms and Consumer Staples sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite rose 0.45%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Finning International Inc . (TSX:FTT), which rose 13.26% or 2.66 points to trade at 22.72 at the close. ATS Automation Tooling Systems Inc. (TSX:ATA) added 9.48% or 1.62 points to end at 18.71 and Intact Financial Corporation (TSX:IFC) was up 6.18% or 8.59 points to 147.54 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Aurora Cannabis Inc (TSX:ACB), which lost 9.42% or 0.605 points to trade at 5.815 in late trade. Cronos Group Inc (TSX:CRON) declined 8.91% or 0.71 points to end at 7.26 and Canopy Growth Corp (TSX:WEED) shed 7.69% or 2.070 points to 24.855.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 539 to 425 and 113 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was unchanged 0% to 11.27.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.65% or 12.35 to $1898.05 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in December rose 3.98% or 1.50 to hit $39.16 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract rose 3.90% or 1.55 to trade at $41.26 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.05% to 0.7618, while CAD/EUR rose 0.05% to 0.6502.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.11% at 93.457.
