Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Energy, Telecoms and Materials sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite added 0.53%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Dye & Durham Ltd (TSX:DND), which rose 17.43% or 2.97 points to trade at 20.01 at the close. Converge Technology Solutions Corp (TSX:CTS) added 9.59% or 0.59 points to end at 6.74 and Tilray Inc (TSX:TLRY) was up 6.64% or 0.39 points to 6.26 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Shopify Inc (TSX:SHOP), which lost 10.96% or 56.96 points to trade at 462.77 in late trade. Hut 8 Mining Corp (TSX:HUT) declined 9.35% or 0.33 points to end at 3.20 and Lightspeed Commerce Inc (TSX:LSPD) shed 7.89% or 2.18 points to 25.46.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 637 to 389 and 85 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 6.25% to 23.86.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.80% or 14.55 to $1,822.75 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July rose 2.93% or 3.18 to hit $111.81 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract rose 2.42% or 2.70 to trade at $114.25 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.45% to 0.78, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.28% to 0.75.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.35% at 104.25.
