Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Consumer Discretionary, Energy and Real Estate sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite gained 0.89%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were BRP Inc (TSX:DOO), which rose 16.46% or 5.83 points to trade at 41.25 at the close. Enerflex Ltd . (TSX:EFX) added 11.13% or 0.60 points to end at 5.99 and Norbord Inc (TSX:OSB) was up 10.46% or 2.36 points to 24.93 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Sandstorm Gold Ltd . (TSX:SSL), which lost 7.26% or 0.87 points to trade at 11.12 in late trade. Aphria Inc (TSX:APHA) declined 7.00% or 0.360 points to end at 4.780 and Badger Daylighting Ltd . (TSX:BAD) shed 6.71% or 1.95 points to 27.09.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 689 to 364 and 99 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was unchanged 0% to 11.27.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was down 1.01% or 17.50 to $1708.30 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 5.18% or 1.22 to hit $24.77 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract rose 5.19% or 1.53 to trade at $30.99 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.34% to 0.7180, while CAD/EUR rose 0.34% to 0.6626.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.11% at 99.797.
