Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Healthcare, IT and Financials sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite added 0.94%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Aurora Cannabis Inc (TSX:ACB), which rose 9.44% or 0.91 points to trade at 10.55 at the close. Interfor Corp (TSX:IFP) added 7.49% or 0.85 points to end at 12.20 and Canfor Corporation (TSX:CFP) was up 6.83% or 0.60 points to 9.39 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Waste Connections Inc (TSX:WCN), which lost 3.29% or 4.16 points to trade at 122.46 in late trade. NexGen Energy Ltd. (TSX:NXE) declined 2.87% or 0.060 points to end at 2.030 and B2Gold Corp (TSX:BTO) shed 2.58% or 0.100 points to 3.770.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 541 to 528 and 116 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 10.77% to 14.58.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.18% or 2.40 to $1330.30 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July fell 0.56% or 0.30 to hit $52.95 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract fell 0.07% or 0.04 to trade at $61.44 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.01% to 0.7465, while CAD/EUR fell 0.02% to 0.6633.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.00% at 97.062.
