Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Telecoms, Energy and REITs sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite fell 0.02%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Parkland Fuel Corporation (TSX:PKI), which rose 5.96% or 1.65 points to trade at 29.35 at the close. Bausch Health Companies Inc (TSX:BHC) added 5.40% or 0.53 points to end at 10.35 and Canada Goose Holdings Inc (TSX:GOOS) was up 4.22% or 1.03 points to 25.45 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Athabasca Oil Corp (TSX:ATH), which lost 6.15% or 0.15 points to trade at 2.29 in late trade. Canopy Growth Corp (TSX:WEED) declined 5.22% or 0.23 points to end at 4.18 and Tamarack Valley Energy Ltd (TSX:TVE) shed 4.10% or 0.19 points to 4.44.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 559 to 468 and 102 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 2.00% to 18.11.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.17% or 3.10 to $1,801.10 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in January fell 0.44% or 0.32 to hit $71.69 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract fell 1.13% or 0.87 to trade at $76.30 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.51% to 0.74, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.04% to 0.70.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.28% at 104.76.
