Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the Energy, Consumer Staples and Real Estate sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite lost 0.38%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Alacer Gold Corp (TO:ASR), which rose 13.54% or 0.440 points to trade at 3.690 at the close. IAMGold Corporation (TO:IMG) added 10.73% or 0.470 points to end at 4.850 and MAG Silver Corp (TO:MAG) was up 8.48% or 1.08 points to 13.82 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Enghouse Systems Ltd (TO:ENGH), which lost 8.74% or 3.35 points to trade at 35.00 in late trade. Ivanhoe Mines Ltd. (TO:IVN) declined 5.83% or 0.200 points to end at 3.230 and Labrador Iron Ore Royalty Corp (TO:LIF) shed 5.76% or 1.84 points to 30.10.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 643 to 426 and 120 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 6.91% to 13.30.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was up 0.98% or 12.65 to $1298.75 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April fell 1.11% or 0.63 to hit $56.03 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract fell 0.92% or 0.61 to trade at $65.69 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.07% to 0.7458, while CAD/EUR rose 0.07% to 0.6633.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.31% at 97.322.
