Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the Energy, Financials and Real Estate sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite lost 0.39%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were BlackBerry Ltd (TSX:BB), which rose 8.10% or 1.31 points to trade at 17.48 at the close. Ballard Power Systems Inc (TSX:BLDP) added 3.38% or 1.52 points to end at 46.49 and Gfl Environmental Inc (TSX:GFL) was up 2.86% or 1.10 points to 39.55 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Vermilion Energy Inc . (TSX:VET), which lost 5.58% or 0.40 points to trade at 6.77 in late trade. Cenovus Energy Inc (TSX:CVE) declined 4.77% or 0.37 points to end at 7.39 and Crescent Point Energy Corp . (TSX:CPG) shed 4.76% or 0.19 points to 3.80.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 593 to 410 and 110 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was unchanged 0% to 11.27.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was down 0.52% or 9.70 to $1856.20 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in March fell 1.96% or 1.04 to hit $52.09 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract fell 1.66% or 0.93 to trade at $55.17 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.73% to 0.7855, while CAD/EUR fell 0.78% to 0.6453.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.07% at 90.192.
