Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the Consumer Discretionary, Energy and Telecoms sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite lost 0.95%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were BlackBerry Ltd (TO:BB), which rose 10.78% or 1.43 points to trade at 14.70 at the close. Paramount Resources Ltd . (TO:POU) added 7.61% or 1.07 points to end at 15.13 and Aurora Cannabis Inc (TO:ACB) was up 6.25% or 0.730 points to 12.410 in late trade.
Biggest losers included West Fraser Timber Co. Ltd . (TO:WFT), which lost 6.43% or 5.05 points to trade at 73.51 in late trade. Norbord Inc (TO:OSB) declined 4.93% or 2.22 points to end at 42.80 and First Quantum Minerals Ltd . (TO:FM) shed 4.91% or 0.76 points to 14.71.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 575 to 500 and 130 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 11.35% to 13.44.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.64% or 7.60 to $1195.00 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in November rose 1.96% or 1.41 to hit $73.53 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract rose 1.92% or 1.56 to trade at $82.94 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.87% to 0.7734, while CAD/EUR rose 1.17% to 0.6664.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.19% at 94.79.
