Investing.com – Canada stocks were lower after the close on Monday, as losses in the IT, Mining and Healthcare sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite declined 0.64%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were IAMGold Corporation (TO:IMG), which rose 9.64% or 0.19 points to trade at 2.16 at the close. Meanwhile, OceanaGold Corporation (TO:OGC) added 8.71% or 0.230 points to end at 2.870 and Semafo Inc . (TO:SMF) was up 8.55% or 0.30 points to 3.81 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Teck Resources Ltd (TO:TCKb), which fell 5.43% or 0.29 points to trade at 5.05 at the close. Transcontinental Inc (TO:TCLa) declined 4.87% or 0.84 points to end at 16.42 and Canadian Oil Sands Limited (TO:COS) was down 4.47% or 0.37 points to 7.90.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 778 to 545 and 156 ended unchanged.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 10.77% to 21.59.
Gold for February delivery was up 1.27% or 13.50 to $1073.70 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in February fell 0.31% or 0.12 to hit $36.92 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract rose 0.30% or 0.11 to trade at $37.39 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.64% to 0.7172, while CAD/EUR fell 0.05% to 0.6622.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.15% at 98.92.
