Investing.com – Germany equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Food & Beverages, Basic Resources and Construction sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Frankfurt, the DAX fell 0.33%, while the MDAX index declined 0.16%, and the TecDAX index fell 0.11%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the DAX were Fresenius Medical Care KGAA ST (DE:FMEG), which rose 1.02% or 0.830 points to trade at 82.250 at the close. Bayer AG NA (DE:BAYGN) added 0.73% or 0.85 points to end at 116.75 and Adidas AG (DE:ADSGN) was up 0.29% or 0.50 points to 174.35 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Deutsche Boerse AG (DE:DB1Gn), which lost 3.94% or 3.650 points to trade at 89.000 in late trade. Merck KGaA (DE:MRCG) declined 2.55% or 2.85 points to end at 108.70 and Lufthansa AG VNA O.N. (DE:LHAG) shed 1.78% or 0.295 points to 16.250.
The top performers on the MDAX were Steinhoff International Holdings NV (DE:SNHG) which rose 2.33% to 4.66, CTS Eventim AG (DE:EVDG) which was up 1.57% to settle at 35.305 and Deutsche Pfandbriefbank AG (DE:PBBG) which gained 1.33% to close at 12.20.
The worst performers were LEG Immobilien AG (DE:LEGn) which was down 3.57% to 82.040 in late trade, Krones AG O.N. (DE:KRNG) which lost 3.57% to settle at 106.650 and Suedzucker AG (DE:SZUG) which was down 3.44% to 19.505 at the close.
The top performers on the TecDAX were SMA Solar Technology AG (DE:S92G) which rose 1.96% to 23.715, Morphosys AG O.N. (DE:MORG) which was up 1.24% to settle at 58.580 and Pfeiffer Vacuum Technology O.N. (DE:PV) which gained 1.11% to close at 122.80.
The worst performers were Medigene NA O.N. (DE:MDG1k) which was down 4.62% to 10.015 in late trade, Cancom SE O.N. (DE:COKG) which lost 2.50% to settle at 49.480 and Telefonica Deutschland Holding AG (DE:O2Dn) which was down 2.16% to 4.122 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 524 to 231 and 15 ended unchanged on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange.
The DAX volatility index, which measures the implied volatility of DAX options, was up 4.99% to 15.35.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was down 0.30% or 3.82 to $1254.88 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 0.82% or 0.40 to hit $49.47 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract rose 0.73% or 0.38 to trade at $52.59 a barrel.
EUR/USD was down 0.26% to 1.1130, while EUR/GBP fell 0.53% to 0.8559.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.14% at 97.48.
